Undoubtedly the archaeologists, the historians, and also the teachers who directly are involved and promote history to future generations, must have access to the latest technological achievements of 3D technology, and they have it as an ally for their project. The cooperation of 4th Dimension Technologies and the Foundation of Hellenic World in 2021, comes to seal this rationale that we have from the beginning of our operation, and we promote at each opportunity.
Few words about the Foundation of the Hellenic World
FHW’s mission is the preservation and dissemination of Hellenic history and tradition, the creation of an awareness of the universal dimension of Hellenism and the promotion of its contribution to cultural evolution. Its aim is the understanding of the past as a point of reference for the formation of the present and future so that contemporary thought may once again be inspired by the Hellenic spirit.
In order to achieve this mission, the Foundation is actively involved with the dissemination of Hellenic culture and history, making good use of modern technological means such as Virtual Reality, Extended reality, Mixed reality.
“Hellenic Cosmos”, the Cultural Centre of the Foundation of the Hellenic World, is an ultra-modern Cultural Centre and Museum that stands out for its innovative programmes. It lies on a former industrial zone on an axis between Athens and Piraeus, where the memory of Athens past meets the city’s modern identity, and its architecture characterises Pireos street.
A wide range of activities
“Hellenic Cosmos” is a multifunctional area where visitors experience Hellenic history and culture, while at the same time it is a venue of cultural creation and expression. In its areas we organize a wide range of activities, open to people of all ages and interests:
- Interactive exhibitions
- Virtual Reality Tours
- Educational Programmes
- Conferences
- Theatrical Performances

Challenge that faced
A virtual model is a tool that can be applied to world cultural heritage as a pillar of conservation, reconstruction, librarian research, and its promotion too. To achieve these virtual constructions that are based greatly on 3D scanning techniques, with aim for the digitization of cultural and historical objects. Creating the need for scanning and modeling small and medium-sized objects, such as for example small statues, ancient vases, ecclesiastical objects, etc., for their representation in VR productions that allow the exploration and the appreciation of the archaeological heritage. Furthermore, the digital objects will now be stored in databases assets of Foundation for further analysis, study, and storage too. Even in the painful case of their destruction for whatever reason will be on file of the institution and can be screened so that the younger generations can learn their history. For the above reasons, it was considered necessary to add a 3d scanner to the already advanced equipment of Foundation of Hellenic World – FHW.
Even, in painful cases of their destruction for whatever reason will be on file of the institution and can be screened, so that, the younger generations can learn their history. For the above reasons, it was considered necessary to put in a 3d scanner to already avant-garde equipment of FHW.
Solution: GO SCAN SPARK of Creaform
The 3D scanning technique with laser is a reliable and valuable method for the reconstruction and maintenance of monuments. This technique is widely recognized for its accuracy, speed and flexibility
After thorough research, the scanning system GO SCAN SPARK 3D of Creaform was judged to be an ideal solution for the foundation of Hellenism as well as its technical characteristics matched perfectly to customer’s requirements. Designed to offer flawless acquisition of texture and geometry as well as striking details in a rich color palette.
It provides accuracy, simplicity, portability and at the same time is a very easy machine to use by the user without requiring much experience. One more crucial factor for choosing GO SCAN SPARK is that it provides the flexibility to scan objects that are forbidden to come closer and touch them or place them on targets such as for example ancient statues and sculptures. Finally, there is a great accuracy of up to 50mm for the best possible 3D rendering of small objects that you will then want to integrate into virtual reality presentations.
After the presentation of a demo by the qualified and fully trained staff of 4DT to the people of Foundation of the Hellenic World, were fully assured of the benefits that this mechanical device would offer to their project, and they proceeded to buy the GO SCAN SPARK to complete all subsequent projects. Finally, after the acquisition of the 3D scanner Th. Constantopoulos and D.Christopoulos were trained by the engineer M. Stratis and were able to test it on their own to learn to use it self-taught with oversight and guidance of our engineer.
